Cancun, Q.R. — A hotel restaurant in the Cancun Hotel Zone that caught fire was completely consumed by flames. On Friday afternoon, firemen responded to the report of a restaurant palapa fire.
They were sent to the waterfront area of the Imperial Las Perlas Hotel at kilometer two of the Cancun Hotel Zone at around 4:15 p.m. There, they located the burning building. The hotel’s Las Gaviotas restaurant, which was constructed on the pier, was completely engulfed in flames by the time they arrived.
They were able to put out the fire and save the pier, but not the restaurant. Preliminary reports say the fire started in the kitchen. No injuries were reported, but minor damage to an adjoining boat rental company was reported.
