FGE takes over case of speeding Cancun police cruiser and motorcycle collision

Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun motorcycle driver was taken to hospital Tuesday after being broadsided by a police truck. The driver of the Cancun Police unit hit the motorcycle driver as he was passing through an intersection.

The accident happened Tuesday morning in SM 50 at the intersection of Kabah and 20 de Noviembre in Cancun.

Video captured the moment the police cruiser entered the intersection without yielding to the green light.

As traffic entered the intersection on a green light, the police cruiser also entered from the opposite direction, hitting a motorcycle. It is not clear if the police cruiser had lights and sirens on at the time of the collision.

The motorcycle and driver were thrown several meters. The police cruiser came to a stop after colliding with a concrete median.

The motorcycle driver was transferred to hospital March 3, 2026.

The driver of the motorcycle was stabilized at the scene before being taken to hospital. The police unit was reportedly responding to a 9-1-1 report at the time of the accident.

The Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit of Cancun (SMSCyT) released a brief informative on the Tuesday morning accident.

The Cancun police cruiser was towed from the scene. March 3, 2026.

The SMSCyT reported that the motorcycle driver was injured and received attention from paramedics at the scene. He was transferred by ambulance to a hospital for medical evaluation with authorities remaining attentive to his health status and ensuring proper care.

The case has been referred to the State Attorney General (FGE) to determine responsibilities for the accident.
