FGE investigating officers after Cancun police lose rape suspect

Cancun, Q.R. — Local authorities continue their hunt for a suspect who had been arrested for rape. They are also investigating the officers who made the arrest. The unidentified man was taken into police custody on Wednesday night from a residential area of Cancun.

During transport to the FGE headquarters in Cancun, the detained man made a bathroom request, which he used to escape police custody. Details surrounding his escape are unknown.

In a statement, the State Attorney General (FGE) said they are investigating the escape of the man accused of rape against a minor. The investigation is being headed by a special internal group for Combating Crimes Committed by Public Servants.

“The FGE of Quintana Roo reports that it opened an investigation after the escape of a detainee when he was being transferred to the FGE facilities for his alleged participation in the crime of rape against a minor victim.

“The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Crimes Committed by Public Servants began investigations to establish responsibilities for the possible crime of illicit exercise of public service.

“The subject was arrested in the irregular colony El Milagro in Benito Juárez, to be placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry by elements of the Municipal Police, who omitted security measures provided for this type of actions,” the FGE explained.
