Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun taxi driver wanted on three counts of rape has been taken into custody. With the help of city surveillance cameras, police were able to locate and detain the man.
In a press conference, the Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of the State reported the arrest of Manuel V. FGR head Óscar Montes de Oca Rosales explained that investigative field work lead to the arrest of the accused, who is wanted on three counts of rape.
Óscar Montes de Oca Rosales said that three women have accused the Cancun taxi driver of rape. He said the rapes occurred on three different dates with the most recent being August 21.
On August 21, “a young foreign woman requested the taxi service, and the now accused offered her a drink to which she was supplied with a substance known as Clonazepam, causing her to lose consciousness and subsequently, he sexually abuse her and left her abandoned,” he said.
He said that two other women have also come forward, presenting their complains of being sexually abused under the same circumstances. Using city surveillance cameras, police were successful in capturing Manuel V by identifying the routes that the taxi driver took to commit his illicit acts.
The FGE says if someone else was a victim, it is important that they report it, which they can do through the FGE website or at 998 302 2702 of the Victim Assistance Directorate.
