Extortionist demanding daily fees from Cancun public transport drivers jailed

Cancun, Q.R. — A man accused of extorting several Cancun public transport drivers has been jailed. According to police, Carlos Fernando “N” and/or Ricardo Javier “N” has been formally charged with extortion after demanding daily payment from several drivers and physically beating one man with a firearm.

“After analyzing the evidence provided by the State Attorney General’s Office, a judge issued the order to link Carlos Fernando “N” and/or Ricardo Javier “N” to trial for his probable participation in acts possibly constituting the crime of extortion,” they reported.

According to their initial investigations, in October 2024 the suspect went to public transport operators to demand payment of a daily fee. On December 10 when the victim was driving his unit, Carlos Fernando “N” boarded the public vehicle and hit the driver with a firearm, demanding the agreed fee under the threat of harming his family.

On December 24, 2024, the suspect took another public transport driver who refused to pay double the fee to a house (with an unknown location) and beat him with a firearm in addition to threatening him.

A Cancun judge has ordered Carlos Fernando “N” and/or Ricardo Javier “N” to remain imprisoned during the two or more year period of his trial.
