Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun judge has sentenced a man to 40 years for extortion and murder. The State Attorney General (FGE) said Juan Jorge “N” was handed the hefty sentence Friday for the December 2022 murder.
After a failed extortion attempt the day before, the accused returned to the man’s place of business and shot him dead before fleeing the scene.
“On December 11, 2022, in the company of other subjects, he arrived at a commercial premises located in SM 526 of Cancun where one of them pointed a firearm at the victim and fired and then fled the scene aboard the vehicle in which they arrived.
“The investigation indicates that a day before, a man arrived at the store and gave the victim a piece of paper with a phone number on it, in addition to asking for money for the so-called “floor fee” and when he did not get a positive response, the subject walked away and got into a vehicle,” the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) reported in a statement.
On Friday during an oral trial, a judge sentenced him to 40 years in prison for the crimes of homicide and extortion. He must pay a fine of 240,550 pesos and an amount of 623,699 for damages.
