Cancun, Q.R. — A man was arrested over the weekend dumping a truck load of garbage in a lagoon, an area north of the city of Cancun. The man, who has not been named, was caught in the process when personnel arrived to close it down for illegal dumping.

Governor Mara Lezama and Oscar Rébora from the Ministry of the Environment (SEMA), coordinated an operation in the Chacmuchuch Lagoon and surrounding areas.
Together with the Municipality of Benito Juárez, through its Directorate of Ecology, SIRESOL and the Municipal Police, clandestine dumps, garbage burning, irregular constructions and invasions were identified, as well as various sources of pollution that affect this ecosystem.
During the operation, a person was caught in the act of transporting a truck full of construction debris. The man was arrested and the dump truck secured and placed at the disposal of the corresponding authorities.

They also imposed closures at several points where illegal activities were detected, where the authorities will closely monitor the situation to ensure the cleanup, restoration and environmental control work in the lagoon.
As is already a premise of this government, the work had the support of local residents.
The State Government reaffirms its commitment to environmental monitoring, addressing citizen complaints, and coordinating with municipal authorities to protect the ecosystems of Quintana Roo.
