Cancun, Q.R. — Paramedics on their way to a house call Monday night were forced to abandon their ambulance. Along the way, the medical unit began to experience mechanical issues that eventually lead to an engine fire.
Cancun firefighters were called to put out the flames when the vehicle began to burn on 20 de Noviembre Avenue. Small explosions were heard throughout the unit as flames made their way toward the back.
The two paramedics traveling in the unit at the time were able to safely get out. By the time firemen arrived, the unit was fully engulfed and beyond saving. An official cause for the fire is still being investigated.
