Cancun, Q.R. — Emergency services were dispatched to a shopping centre parking lot Sunday to free a trapped man. The man was walking through the parking lot barefoot when he stepped on a grate and went through.
The incident happened Sunday morning when he began to walk across the metal grate. After a few steps in, his right foot slipped between the bars. He was left trapped with his foot stuck in the grate up past his ankle.
Cancun firemen were sent to the central city parking lot where they found the man stuck. Hydraulic spreaders were used clear a path through the metal grate enough to free him.
Bomberos Cancun said that after being freed, the man was transferred for medical attention due to swelling.

“On the morning of January 18, members of the Cancun Fire Department responded to a report of a person with their foot trapped in a grate in the parking lot of a shopping center in the city,” Bomberos Cancun said.
“Upon arrival, personnel located a conscious male who was unable to free himself. Urban rescue maneuvers were immediately performed using specialized equipment, successfully freeing his foot safely.
“The individual was then assessed at the scene and transported by medical services to a hospital for treatment, presenting with swelling in the affected limb.
“The area was inspected to rule out additional risks and ensure the safety of pedestrians.
“We remind the public to exercise caution while walking, especially in areas with grates, drains, or uneven surfaces, and to report any hazardous situation. In case of an emergency, report it immediately to the official numbers.”
