Electrical overload destroys two story home in Cancun

Cancun, Q.R. — A fire Sunday late night in SM 523 of Cancun left a home completely destroyed. Firemen were sent to a two story house on Lakin Avenue where a young woman, the sole occupant of the home at the time, was found.

Firemen used forced entry to gain access to the second story of the house that was found fully engulfed upon their arrival. A woman was found on the first level of the home and removed without injury.

Preliminary information indicates the fire started in an upstairs bedroom due to an electrical overload.

In a statement, Bomberos Cancun reported that “members of the Cancun Fire Department promptly responded to a fire in a two-story house. The fire primarily affected a bedroom and various pieces of furniture on the upper floor.

Cancun firemen were on scene late Sunday night. December 14, 2025.

“Our personnel carried out containment, extinguishing, cooling and ventilation operations, as well as forced entry for search and rescue, successfully controlling the situation and preventing the fire from spreading to other areas of the house.

“Medical assistance was also requested to evaluate a person suffering from a nervous breakdown.

“The rapid intervention of emergency services is essential to safeguarding the lives and property of families.

“We encourage you to check your electrical installations, avoid overloading outlets, and have a family emergency plan. In any emergency situation, call 911 immediately. To Serve and Protect!” the Cancun fire department said.
