Eight in custody and minor located during Cancun Hotel Zone search operation

Cancun, Q.R. — A group of Ministerial Police officers who were tracking a missing minor arrested eight people Sunday night. The search operation began around 11:45 p.m. in the Pok Ta Pok residential area off Kukulcán Boulevard in the Cancun Hotel Zone.

Police arrived at the complex in response to a call by a building manager who reported seeing armed men illegally enter an apartment.

Officers from various levels of the State Attorney General’s Office located armed subjects inside the property as they approached. Reports say several deterrent shots were fired which activated the so-called code red, putting all security forces on alert.

During the operation, eight people, including men and women, were arrested. One minor girl, who was allegedly being sought as a missing person, was taken into protective custody.

At least four of those arrested were taken into custody for disturbing public order. Gabriela Isabel “G” 54, Marlén Salomé “F” 46, María Teresa “O” 62 and Fernanda Elizabeth “R” 26, were removed from the scene for disturbing public order.

The area was surrounded by authorities to prevent civilians from entering during the operation. The State Attorney General’s Office has not issued an official statement on the operation.
