Cancun, Q.R. — Another boat was found left on a Cancun beach after its occupants abandoned ship. The large boat with the name Carlos Roldan Leiva hand painted on the side, was found near Playa Tortugas early Monday.
It was found empty of people but filled with a variety of items around 7:00 a.m. by early morning beachgoers. The 911 report made regarding its discovery had authorities on site as well as reviewing city surveillance cameras to determine who the vessel may belong to.
Inside the boat, authorities found jugs of water and gasoline along with discarded clothing and an engine.
Consequently, a search operation was carried out in the federal maritime zone and along Kukulkan Boulevard of the Cancun Hotel Zone, but so far, the National Migration Institute (INM) has not reported any detainees.
Reports say the boat had a carrying capacity of between 15 and 20 people. While there are suspicions that it is another illegal Cuban vessel, there have not been any official reports confirming it was used for that purpose.
