Due to a 20-year lag, more than 21 million invested in Cancun fire department

Cancun, Q.R. — More than 21 million peso in equipment has been invested in the Cancun Fire Department. Cancun Mayor Ana Patricia Peralta, together with Governor Mara Lezama, carried out the delivery of equipment, which included a Rapid Response and Urban Rescue Unit.

The unit will be used for fire care, vehicular extraction, vertical rescue and fuel spills. The unit has the capability to reach 12 stories. Other equipment included protection suits, breathing apparatus, portable radios, chainsaws, hoses and nozzles.

The investment in the city’s fire department was made while Lezama was mayor of Cancun, but not delivered until after she became state governor.

Arturo Sosa Muñoz, Director of the Cancun Fire Department, says the Cancun fire department consists of 176 men and woman and also attend to emergency situations in Holbox, Isla Mujeres, Puerto Morelos and even in José María Morelos.

Governor Lezama said the investment of 21 million pesos was to address a 20-year lag.
