Driver thrown from destroyed combi killed in Cancun crash

Cancun, Q.R. — A city combi driver was killed early Saturday in a two vehicle crash in a residential area of Cancun. The accident happened between a Cancun combi and hotel staff bus around 1:00 a.m.

Scores of emergency vehicles rushed to the scene near the Vista Real subdivision to a demolished van and dead driver. The driver of the city combi, who has not been identified, was found laying in the middle of the road.

He had been thrown from his unit during the brutal collision with the front of the hotel staff bus. Dozens of area residents flocked to the street after hearing the commotion of the two vehicle crash.

Emergency services sent police, ambulances and Civil Protection personnel to the scene of the accident. The driver of the bus was seriously injured and transferred to hospital after being removed from the front seat where he was found partially trapped.

According to very early information, the two vehicles collided nearly head on at a high rate of speed, leaving the front driver’s side of the bus with extensive damage, including a busted windshield and side window.

The Cancun combi was completely destroyed on the driver’s side. At some point, the driver of the public city van was thrown from the vehicle.

Both the hotel staff bus and city transport van were empty of passengers at the time of the crash. Police have not provided an official cause of the accident, nor have they identified either of the city drivers involved.
