Cancun, Q.R. — Speeding is the said cause of a horrific accident in the Cancun Hotel Zone that claimed at least one life. The accident happened Monday morning in the area of Kilometer 25 of the hotel zone.
Police, firemen and paramedics were sent to the scene after reports of the accident by motorists. Authorities arrived to find a car wrapped around a concrete pole with its male driver tossed onto the pavement a distance away.
Authorities responding to the 10:00 a.m. single-vehicle crash also reported one seriously injured person who was a front-seat passenger. Preliminary reports say the driver of the Nissan lost control nearing a curve at a high rate of speed and crashed head-on into the base of a concrete pole.
The driver was thrown completely clear of the car. His lifeless body was located on the opposite side of the road. Inside the car was a seriously injured passenger. Firemen were called to the site to cut the remaining occupant out of the car for transport to hospital.
Elements of the Tourist Police and National Guard also arrived to take charge of the corresponding legal procedures. The names of those involved in the crash were not provided.
