Driver killed in afternoon collision with industrial flatbed

Cancun, Q.R. — A motorcycle driver was killed Thursday in an afternoon accident on Jose Lopez Portillo Avenue. The unnamed man died after his bike was struck by an industrial semi flatbed.

Paramedics pronounced the driver dead March 5, 2026.

Emergency services were called to Jose López Portillo Avenue and 107th Street in SM 94 by witnesses. It is unclear exactly how the motorcycle and industrial truck collided along the avenue.

Witnesses said upon colliding, the driver of the motorcycle fell under the wheels of the vehicle. Both him and his bike were dragged for more than a block before the driver of the unit came to a stop.

The semi truck driver was heading toward Chac Mool Avenue hauling a heavy load of scrap metal at the time of the accident. When he finally stopped his vehicle, he fled on down a side street.

Mexican Marina personnel who were passing through the area were flagged down for assistance by witnesses who pointed to the running man. Several naval personnel gave chase and caught up with him.

He was taken into custody from the scene of the two vehicle accident. The deceased motorcycle driver has not been publicly identified.
