Drainage system overhaul in Cancun Hotel Zone progressing

Cancun, Q.R. — Progress continues on the sanitary drainage system in the third phase of Cancun Hotel Zone. Aguakan says they are making progress in coordination with municipal authorities and the Quintana Roo Tourism Development Trust (Foatqroo), on the renovation and expansion of drainage system.

During this phase, 35 six-meter pipes have been installed in each section. The project is being developed on two main fronts. The first section runs between Ventura Park (Km 25) and the Residence Inn by Marriott Cancun Hotel (Km 23.5) on Boulevard Kukulkán.

The second consists of the installation of a pressurized sewer with a new 12-inch pipe approximately 3,000 linear meters long starting at the Km 23 pumping station and ending at the pumping station in front of the Westin Regina Hotel (Km 20.5).

The overhaul is meant to strengthen the sanitation infrastructure in one of the areas with the highest tourist activity.

The company says the entire project has been divided into four sections, each with an estimated execution time of 45 days, with the aim of maintaining an orderly process, minimizing the impact on traffic and protecting the tourist environment.

The project, which was started in October 2025, is expected to be finished in September of 2026 at a cost of over 29 million pesos.
