Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun firemen were tasked with the removal of a city cab that was found nose-down in a hole Thursday. Other taxi drivers stopped to help their comrade Thursday morning after he reported driving into an open, but marked, excavation in SM 209.

The single vehicle mishap was reported at a worksite on Talleres Avenue where crews had started digging the day before to install new underground lines.
The driver of the Cancun cab allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and drove into the open hole, failing to notice the sectioned-off area as he approached. He managed to climb out of his unit and then out of the hole using the underside of his cab.

Only the trunk of the cab could be seen from the road above ground. Cancun Transit arrived to collect a statement, while a tow truck was brought in to remove the taxi from the hole. Paramedics treated the driver of the city cab for minor injuries.
