Cruiser and car collide pushing one into facade of Cancun restaurant

Cancun, Q.R. — A police cruiser and private car were wrecked after colliding Thursday morning. The two vehicles crashed on Huayacán Avenue around 1:30 a.m. leaving the car to rest against the facade of a closed restaurant.

Early reports say the driver of the private vehicle made a sudden lane change, putting the car in the path of an oncoming police unit. Unable to stop in time, the police vehicle hit the side of the car, sending it off the road.

The broadside sent the car into the facade of a Cancun restaurant in SM 311 where it was found by emergency personnel. The police truck stopped in the middle of the avenue after taking out a city streetlight.

Municipal police and paramedics from the Rescue and Emergency Medical Squad arrived  at the scene. The driver of the car, who was the only occupant, was treated for minor injuries.

The car was broadsided by the patrol truck during a bad lane change February 5, 2026.

Officers from inside the patrol unit were also treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Infrastructure damage was reported at the front of the restaurant due to the impact from the car. One streetlight was felled by the police unit during the accident.

Both the car and police truck were heavily damaged from the two vehicle colission.
