Confrontation between gang members and Cancun police leaves one dead, two injured

Cancun, Q.R. — A confrontation between Cancun police and a criminal group has left one dead and two injured. In a brief statement, the FGE confirmed the shooting death of one male after a shootout with police in the streets of the Alfredo V. Bonfil.

In their statement, the agency said a “confrontation between investigative police and alleged members of a criminal organization in the Alfredo V. Bonfil delegation of the Municipality of Benito Juárez, a male was killed and two more were injured.”

The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reported the confrontation occurred around 6:30 p.m. in Alfredo V. Bonfil on the outskirts of Cancun. The group is alleged responsible for area kidnappings.

Police seized two weapons and one vehicle the men were traveling in at the time of the confrontation. The FGE says the seized car is believed used in other kidnappings.
