Cancun, Q.R. — A worker for a Cancun construction company was killed Friday after being crushed. City authorities were notified of the accident at an industrial company facility on Jose Lopez Portillo Avenue.
According to initial reports, employees were operating a piece of heavy equipment when the weight of the machine overwhelmed them and fell on a worker. The worker, who has not been named beyond being identified as a company employee, was killed.
Cancun firemen, police and paramedics responded to the emergency 9-1-1 call made by fellow coworkers. Medical personnel arrived only to confirm the man had already died.
The company site was cordoned off by authorities while forensic services carried out the removal of the body.
Civil Protection also secured the area to begin an investigation into the conditions under which the accident happened.
