Cancun, Q.R. — Members of the National Guard (GN) have arrested a Colombian man at the Cancun International Airport for cocaine possession. On Thursday, the unnamed passenger was taken into custody in Terminal 2 after Customs found a package of apparent cocaine in his luggage.
“When carrying out checks in the international flights area of Terminal 2 of the Cancun International Airport, the elements observed that a passenger, coming from Bogotá, Colombia, entered through the automated selection mechanism, corresponding to a red light at the tax traffic light, that is, it was subject to customs review,” the National Guard reported in a statement.
“The suitcase was first entered into an X-ray machine, detecting a possible illegal substance for which they proceeded to carry out a manual inspection and confirmed that it was a package wrapped in a black bag and aluminum foil with an approximate weight of 1 kilo, which concealed white powder with the characteristics of the drug known as cocaine, which is why he was arrested,” they explained.
