Cold temperatures continue to blanket region as front 18 passes

Cancun, Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Residents continue to feel the severe drop in temperatures as the remainder of Cold Front No. 18 moves across the state. The front entered the region Monday and has caused both day and nighttime temperatures to remain well under average.

The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN) reports the coldest temperature in the state has been recorded in Felipe Carrillo Puerto with a nighttime temperature of 12.5 C. However, other regions have also seen a severe dip in numbers.

SMN says due to the cold front, they have recorded other low nighttime figures. Other chilly regions have included Chetumal with 13.2 C, Nicolás Bravo 13.6, José María Morelos at 13.9 C and Xcalak at 17.2 C.

Playa del Carmen recorded a low of 16.5 C, while Cozumel recorded 17.9 C and Cancun, 18.5 C. During the month of December, the region usually sees average nighttime temperatures of around 26 C. Due to the cold front, this temperature has been the region’s average daytime temperature.
