Cancun, Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Cold Front 20 is forecast to pass over the Cancun, Riviera Maya region as it enters the country Sunday. Residents will want to keep the extra blankets out for another two days of forecast cold temperatures.
Mexico’s Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN) reports that for Monday and Tuesday, Cold Front No. 20 and its associated polar air mass will rapidly travel through the northeast, center, east and southeast of the country, causing a marked decrease in temperatures and an increase in the potential for rainfall over these regions.
SMN says Veracruz, Puebla, Oaxaca, Chiapas and Tabasco are the most likely to experience the heavy rainfall, while Yucatán and Quintana Roo could see intervals of rain accompanied by strong winds. Below zero temperatures are expected for the central mountainous regions.
