Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Residents are in for a cool weekend with the arrival of Cold Front No. 27. Civil Protection says the front, which arrived during the nighttime hours of Friday, will linger.
Adrián Martínez Ortega, director general of the State Coordination of Civil Protection said that upon the arrival of the front, the thermometer dropped to 17C (62F) in Felipe Carrillo Puerto. For this reason, he says people need to take precautions to prevent respiratory illnesses.
Martínez Ortega said that according to the National Meteorological Service (SMN), the system is moving in across the north and northeast portion of the country from the United States.
The mass of cold air has generated a drop in local tropical temperatures, with a Saturday nighttime forecast temperature of 15C (59F) for Riviera Maya and daytime temperatures of 25C, down a bit from the seasonal 29C.
