Cancun, Q.R. — City traffic near the Cancun airport was affected for several hours after a dump truck overturned. The driver of the industrial vehicle was transporting a load of rock debris when he overturned on a corner on Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard.

Traffic heading to the airport as well as vehicles entering the city were affected due to the strategic location of the overturn. Municipal authorities had to temporarily shut part of the boulevard after being made aware of the accident shortly before 9:30 Tuesday morning.
The driver of the dump truck was heading to the city, driving north from Playa del Carmen, when he overturned. Three lanes under a city overpass were closed when the truck dumped its load of rock debris onto the road.
On Tuesday morning, the Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC) said “at this time, a road closure is in place due to the overturning of a dump truck with material on the asphalt. Therefore, the public is asked to take alternate routes as traffic is temporarily limited.
“We also invite you to make way for rescue units heading to the scene on Colosio Avenue, just below the bridge leading to the airport. We also ask that you stay informed through official channels.”

The driver of the dump truck and one passenger suffered minor injuries. Police did not say what caused the driver to overturn his unit.
