Cancun, Q.R. — Preconstruction work for the long awaited Nichupté Lagoon Bridge will begin July 15 in the Cancun Hotel Zone. The city of Cancun made the official announcement July 13, warning motorists that work will be started and likely affect those traveling in the Cancun Hotel Zone.
The city, along with the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation, says surveying work will be carried out so construction of the new bridge can begin. Both agencies say this weekend, heavy machinery will be moving along Kabah and Bonampak Avenues, for which they recommend motorists drive with caution.
The City of Cancun says elements of the Traffic Directorate will be located in points of the first square of the city and in the tourist areas to help traffic flow during the more busy hours.
In addition, workers will also be carrying out road flagging at the Cancun International Airport junction since there will be a reduction in lanes.
The Nichupté Lagoon Bridge project will be constructed by the construction company, ICA, (Ingenieros Civiles Asociados), the same company constructing section 4 of the Maya Train that runs from Izamal, Yucatán to Cancun.
