Cancun, Q.R. — Authorities in Cancun have removed a large billboard frame from the side of a major city roadway. According to the City, the billboard was removed due to a lack of permits and a lack of maintenance.

The City of Cancun says the frame was taken down as part of the urban image cleanup program done through the Secretariat of Ecology and Urban Development, and the Directorate of Urban Image and Public Roads.
The large metal frame was dismantled from the side of José López Portillo Avenue in Supermanzana 98 Friday.
Department personnel were supported by elements of Traffic and Civil Protection in order to delimit the area while the sign was being taken down using industrial machinery.

“The removal of the billboard was due to permit issues as well as the lack of maintenance at the base, which represented a risk for the population since it is necessary to prioritize the safety of passers-by,” the City said in a statement.
