City bus driver dislodges Cancun power pole in early morning mishap

Cancun, Q.R. — At least five people were transferred to Cancun hospitals Friday morning from the scene of a single vehicle accident. Cancun Transit located a city bus embedded in a city pole at the intersection of Nichupté Avenue and Holbox Avenue early Friday.

Emergency services were notified of the accident around 6:25 a.m. to where Transit officers arrived. A Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) pole in SM 11 was completely dislodged from its base and found dangling from the air supported by overhead wires.

The front of the bus was found entangled in electric wires. CFE personnel were called in to stabilized the pole and wires before a tow truck could remove the city bus.

Early morning traffic was affected by the single bus mishap. Cancun Transit officials did not provide a reason for the crash. The entire block was cordoned off for a few hours while police had the bus removed, CFE replaced the pole and firemen helped in debris cleanup.
