Cargo truck’s smoke quickly turns to flames in Cancun underpass

Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun firemen were quick to the scene of a burning truck in a city underpass Thursday. The small cargo truck began to smoke as it traveled along Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard and descend into the passage.

Passing motorists, along with the driver of the truck, called 9-1-1 for help when the smoke turned to flames. Despite the fast response time by city firemen, the company fruit and vegetable truck could not be saved.

Aquileo Cervantes Álvarez, the Operating Coordinator of the Cancun Fire Department arrived at the 10:30 a.m. scene due to the numerous reports of thick black smoke coming from the underpass.

There, they located the source of the smoke, a three-ton company truck. The driver of the truck was outside his unit unloading his produce when officials arrived. Cancun Transit diverted traffic around the underpass while firemen put out the fire.

A mechanical failure, yet to be determined, has been reported as the cause of the morning truck fire. No one was injured.
