Car embedded in back of city bus seriously snarls Cancun traffic

Cancun, Q.R. — A woman and her minor son were taken to Cancun hospital Friday morning from the scene of a crash. The crash happened when the female driver of a private car rammed into the back of a city bus.

The accident happened shortly before 9:00 a.m. seriously snarling Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard traffic.

Both vehicles were traveling in the same direction when the bus made a passenger stop and the car hit the bus. Cancun Transit found the car partially embedded in the back of the unit.

The two occupants, the female driver and her son of around eight, were taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries. The accident is the result of following too closely. One lane was completely closed to Cancun commuters and reserved for emergency vehicles, adding to the early morning congestion.

In a statement Friday, Cancun Transit warned city drivers of the accident. “Cancun residents, we inform you of a traffic accident with injuries on Colosio Boulevard near the Toyota dealership, heading toward the airport.

“Members of the Cancun Traffic Department and the Cancun Fire Department are already on the scene. Traffic in the center lanes is restricted for emergency response. If you are traveling in the area, please take precautions.”

The driver of the city bus was taken in for questioning by Cancun Transit officers.
