Cancun, Q.R. — At the end of October, the city of Cancun will have its first official ice rink. Those involved in the project have announced the tentative opening of the indoor rink for the end of October.
According to Alejandro Luna Lopez, the Director del Instituto Municipal del Deporte (IMD) in Cancun, the rink is already built and is part of the newly opened Grand Outlet Riviera Maya, which is located on the outskirts of the city of Cancun.
“Very good news for Cancun. Learn about the progress of the ice rink, which will soon be located at Grand Outlet Cancun-Puerto Morelos Federal Highway, which will come into operation at the end of October.”
Luna Lopez says the ice rink will be Olympic sized and host various sporting events. “The Olympic rink measures 60 x 30 and will host disciplines such as ice hockey, curling, figure skating and speed skating,” he posted on social media.
The rink will be able to accommodate 150 people on the ice at a time and comfortably seat 400 spectators.
“Investment from the private initiative is always welcome and this is another segment of athletes that we are going to have soon because I have no doubt that there will be many who practice these sports, which is one of the most important in the United States and Canada,” he said.
