Cancun’s historic central Parque las Palapas part of 7 million in city remodeling project

Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun’s Parque las Palapas is set to be included in a 7 million peso renovation this year. The head of the Secretary of Public Works and Services of Cancun, Salvador Diego Alarcón, said the park renovation is part of a central city project that includes several areas.

The city is also considering the recovery of some areas of SM 1, 4, 5 and part of 23 as well as a comprehensive project for the Parque las Palapas, since it is one of Cancun’s busiest.

“There are several approaches that are being made and I think the most important and outstanding is this investment project that is going to be carried out in the Las Palapas park to beautify it and give it a change since it is one of the most visited and iconic of our city,” he said.

Diego says the investment will likely be between 6 and 7 million peso to recover the area and encourage tourism to visit the city center, which is currently focused mostly in the Hotel Zone.
