Cancun, Q.R. — A woman accused of leaving her newborn baby in a Cancun garbage is facing charges. Police say Ana Laura “N” has been arrested for attempted homicide and child abandonment.
State Attorney General head, Raciel López Salazar, said Ana Laura “N” is accused leaving her newborn inside a garbage can on May 18. The baby was found in the garbage by residents in the Paraíso Maya subdivision who called 9-1-1.
Raciel López Salazar stated that as a result of the procedures carried out, including interviews, analysis of video recordings, and field and office investigations, police obtained sufficient evidence to request the corresponding arrest warrant.
Ana Laura “N” was arrested the following day by Investigative Police and taken to hospital. She is now facing charges of attempted homicide and child abandonment.
López Salazar says they are still investigating the case to clarify facts, “prioritizing at all times the best interests of the child.”
There has been media speculation that the baby was the result of a physical assault, however, authorities have not confirmed that speculation.
