Cancun, Q.R. — A high impact crash between a Playa del Carmen taxi and garbage collection truck in Cancun left the taxi driver trapped and his passengers injured.
A taxi from the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río syndicate in Playa del Carmen was hit by a garbage truck Friday night on the 307 Federal Highway at the southern exit of Cancun near the Cancun airport. Emergency rescue personnel worked laboriously to remove those trapped from inside the crushed taxi.
The accident was reported around 8:00 p.m. when calls to emergency services arrived of the collision. Cancun firemen, along with personnel from the Rescate Urbano, rushed to the scene to free the trapped taxi driver and passengers.
The driver of the taxi was reportedly rushed to hospital with serious injuries. There was no word on the condition of the passengers.
