Cancun Transit Police left to deal with burned car after driver hits CFE pole then flees

Cancun, Q.R. — The driver of a car that caught fire after hitting a pole fled before police arrived. On Sunday morning, Cancun Transit authorities arrived after the accident report in SM 224.

Once there, they located a burning car but no driver. The vehicle was located abandoned at a Chac Mool Avenue intersection in Cancun near a collapsed Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) pole.

Transit Police determined the driver was traveling east when he hit the concrete pole, toppling it and causing his car to catch fire. Although the Quintana Roo license plates were identifiable, the rest of the car was not since it burned in its entirety. The city was left with the task of extinguishing the flames and towing the car from the public roadway.
