Cancun, Q.R. — Transit officers were left to deal with a car that ran over a median and onto a city bike path Sunday morning. The wrecked car was reported to police after it was found left behind by its driver.

Transit officers made their way through the trees at kilometer 7.5 of Kukulcán Boulevard in Cancun Hotel Zone around 9:40 a.m. responding to citizen reports of the heavily damaged vehicle.
A red Peugeot was found abandoned after crashing into roadway infrastructure including several palm trees. The driver of the left-behind car was believed heading west on Kukulcán Boulevard at the time of the mishap. The back hatch of the car was completely removed from its structure and the window gone. Debris from inside the vehicle was found scattered around the area where the car finally came to rest.

The driver fled the scene before authorities arrived, leaving city crews to clean up the mess. Cancun police were responsible for towing the car off the bike path and tracking down the driver using city surveillance cameras.
