Cancun, Q.R.– Police attended to an inner-city rollover in Cancun Thursday night along José López Portillo Avenue. A private vehicle took out a double-lighted city street pole in the central median, causing the car to roll over.
Cancun Transit found the car on its roof at the scene of the single vehicle accident in SM 64. Police did not confirm how the driver of the car came to hit the pole, but did mention that excessive speed has been considered.
Cancun firemen were also called in to assist with the crash. At least one person was transferred to hospital from inside the vehicle. Traffic was jammed along José López Portillo Avenue for more than an hour while emergency services sorted out the chaos.
In a road report, Cancun Police said “members of the Traffic Department responded to a rollover accident with injured people on José López Portillo Avenue, SM 64 from west to east (Av. Kabah – Av. Bonampak).
“Firefighters were also working at the scene. Drivers are advised to moderate their speed.”
