Cancun, Q.R. — A Yucatan tourist who went for an early morning swim died by drowning Sunday. The 48-year-old man was with several friends when the group entered the water around 4:00 a.m.
When his friends returned to shore and realized one was missing, they contacted emergency services. Cancun firemen were sent to Playa Gaviota Azul at kilometer 9.5 of the Cancun Hotel Zone to aide in a search for the body.
The body of 48-year-old Lorenzo “P” from Tizimín, Yucatan, was located about two hours later. He was found floating in the sea approximately 700 meters from the beach. He was returned to shore where paramedics confirmed he was deceased.
According to the group of early morning swimmers, they took to the water after a night of clubbing in the hotel zone.
