Cancun to renew contract with Red Ambiental for city’s garbage collection

Cancun, Q.R. — In the next few days, Cancun City Council will sign an official contract with garbage collection company Red Ambiental to continue serving the municipality.

Red Ambiental took over the city’s garbage collection lastyear, after Inteligencia México breached its contract with the city of Cancun. The city eventually intervened, hiring a third party who hired Red Ambiental to take over after weeks of ongoing collection problems due a lack of garbage trucks.

Cancun mayor Mara Lezama has confirmed Red Ambiental will continue to provide the service for the next three years of its administration since they have demonstrated capacity and quality of service.

She said the contract has already been integrated into the new 2021-2024 administration, noting that garbage collection service was not interrupted even though the previous contract had technically expired.

Over the course of the next few days, both the company and the city of Cancun will renew the contract, which will last for the duration of the current administration.
