Cancun tennis instructor sentenced to nine years for abuse

Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun tennis instructor has been sentenced to more than nine years in prison for abuse. The man has been identified by police as José “N” who was the owner of a tennis academy where he also taught classes.

José “N” was found guilty of sexual abuse after a student reported him for abuse that began in January of 2021. Police did not say how long the instructor abused his minor student.

In a statement, the State Attorney General (FGE) reported José “N” had been handed a nine year and six month prison sentence for sexual abuse.

“José “N” was the owner of a tennis academy where he also taught classes to children and adolescents. The events for which he will serve a sentence occurred starting in January 2021, at the school facilities.

“Following the complaint, the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Sexual Crimes gathered evidence to establish his responsibility for the crime of sexual abuse.

“After issuing a sentence in a hearing to determine the penalties and reparation of damages, the judge also imposed a fine of 22,405 pesos, as well as 73,488 pesos for reparation of material damages. He was also sentenced to pay reparation for moral and integral damages to the victim and injured parties,” the FGE reported.
