Cancun, Q.R. — Heavy rain and excessive speed were determined causes of a two vehicle crash in Cancun. Thursday night, city Transit attended to reports of a collision between two cars on Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard.

A city cab was found overturned at the scene along with a heavily damaged private vehicle. The two cars collided around 7:15 p.m. shortly after the rain started.
According to early information, one driver was heading south on Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard when they skidded and drove up onto the central median. Along the way, the driver hit a palm tree, sending him into the opposite lane where he smashed into an oncoming car.
The out of control car bounced off the central median and fell onto its side. The driver was transferred to a Cancun hospital with undisclosed injuries. Tow trucks were called in to remove the damaged vehicles from the boulevard.

Southbound traffic was at a standstill for more than an hour due to the accident.
