Cancun, Q.R. — Dozens of Cancun taxi drivers again used their vehicles to prevent roadway passage into the Cancun Hotel Zone. On Wednesday, drivers arrived and parked their cars in the intersections of Bonampak and Kukulcán Avenues around 1:30 p.m. where they demanded the dismissal of the director of the Tourist Police.
Cancun taxi drivers accused the director, César Escamilla Pacheco of extortion, of being involved with criminal groups, charging them for rights to work certain areas. They also accused the director of protecting criminal groups, which has lead to the deaths of numerous Cancun taxi drivers.
On Monday, dozens of Cancun taxi drivers took to blocking Hotel Zone access in protest of two of their members being arrested.
