Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun taxi driver was killed early Wednesday after hoping the median and slamming into a tree. The accident that involved only the taxi happened on the Ramal Norte highway coming from Isla Mujeres shortly before 7:30 a.m.

According to initial reports, the male driver of a Nissan Tsuru taxi was speeding when he lost control, left the road and mounted the median strip. The old model car crashed into a tree, causing fatal injuries to the driver.
Members of the National Guard were the first to arrive followed by paramedics who confirmed that the driver, identified as Jesús “G”, no longer had vital signs. The area was cordoned off by federal authorities while forensics removed the body.
