Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun taxi driver is facing drug trafficking and weapons charges after being arrested over the weekend. On Sunday, police said Edson Jovani “N” was taken into custody for drug and firearm violations.

Edson Jovani “N” was arrested when patrolling police noticed him handling bags of what were believed to be narcotics outside his car.
“The incident occurred on Villa Marmara Street and Villas del Mar in SM 37 where the corresponding inspection was carried out,” police in Cancun said.
During the inspection, the arresting officers found a tactical vest, 60 small bags of marijuana, 32 small bags of crystalline solid fragments resembling methamphetamine, a cell phone, a black firearm with a black magazine and live rounds.
They also located eight 500-gram clear bags containing marijuana, two small boxes, each containing 12 pieces of edible chocolate containing THC and two large boxes, each containing 24 pieces of the same product.
Also seized was a silver HK SP89 semi-automatic submachine gun with a black grip, chambered in 9mm, and a silver magazine containing six 9mm rounds.

Authorities making the arrest seized the illegal items, his phone and car, “a white Nissan Versa with green stripes belonging to the Andrés Quintana Roo taxi drivers’ union and bearing Quintana Roo license plates.”
