Cancun taxi driver arrested as part of alleged robbery ring

Cancun, Q.R. — A taxi driver who is allegedly involved in convenience store robberies was captured Wednesday, after helping two accomplices escape after they committed a robbery.

The 10:30 a.m. arrest happened with the report of a robbery from a business in the Puerto Real Las Quintanas subdivision of Cancun. During the report, it was indicated that the two alleged perpetrators fled in a taxi numbered 1819.

Elements of the Quintana Roo Police were able to quickly locate the unit on Hacienda La Ventilla Avenue, which resulted in a chase until the taxi driver was intercepted by police.

At that moment, the two alleged assailants got out of the taxi and ran toward Hacienda Chablé Avenue without being located, while the driver of the taxi was arrested for his alleged participation in a robbery from a business that was reported moments before.

Although the taxi driver said he did not know the names of his two alleged accomplices, police investigations found that that numbered taxi unit had been mentioned in several reports of robberies, such as the one used by criminals to flee.

The arrested taxi driver was placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry for investigation.
