Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun taxi driver was arrested Thursday afternoon in the Cancun Hotel Zone for attacking an Uber driver. The incident took place at Kilometre 2.5 of the hotel zone when the taxi driver intentionally blocked the path of the Uber car. He then proceeded to hit the vehicle, causing damage to the front as well as breaking the windshield.

According to the Uber driver, elements of the National Guard happened to pass by during the assault, stopping and arresting the offending taxi driver. He was taken into custody and handed over to the Secretaría of Seguridad and Protección (SSP) in the Cancun Hotel Zone.

In response, a contingent of other taxi drivers went to the SSP to demand his release. The arrested Cancun taxi driver has been identified as 28-year-old Jorge Alejandro N.

The Uber driver was also brought to the station to file an official complaint. While there, video captures the moment other Cancun taxi drivers physically assault him while inside the SSP building. To avoid further issues, the arrested taxi driver was transferred to central offices for processing.
