Cancun, Q.R. — A man was pronounced dead on Playa Gaviota Azul Sunday after being dragged out to sea. Other swimmers tried to help as they watched him struggle but were unable to do anything.
Lifeguards were made aware of the situation. They were able to retrieve the man from the strong currents and return him to shore. He was brought to the sand where CPR efforts were applied and paramedics were requested, however, he was non responsive.
Paramedics arrived only to confirm his death.
The accident happened around 3:00 p.m. off the busy Cancun Hotel Zone family beach. Playa Gaviota Azul is a popular swimming area at Kilometer 9.5 of the Cancun Hotel Zone. The man was reportedly with his wife and two children at the time of the accident.
