Cancun resident arrested and fined 8,000 for illegal garbage dumping

Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun resident caught dumping garbage in a green area has been arrested and fined. The 50 year old man, who has not been named, was taken into Municipal Police custody Tuesday after being caught red handed.

Personnel from the recently launched Siresol Green Units (Unidades Verdes de Siresol) who monitor the city for such activity, witnessed the illegal dump along Avenue Ixtepec.

Municipal Police were called and the man arrested. Since his arrest, he has been fined 8,000 pesos by the city for illegally depositing solid waste in a clandestine garbage dump.

In a statement, Cancun City Hall said “in an act of authority and as part of the environmental protection that characterizes the government of Benito Juárez, this Tuesday, the Siresol Green Units supported by personnel from the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit, arrested a citizen who was caught red-handed throwing garbage in a green area located on Av. Ixtepec with Av. Niños Héroes.

“The request was made after surveillance of a clandestine dump by personnel from the Integral Solid Waste Solution (Siresol), who identified a 50-year-old individual while he was dumping his solid waste on a property.

“After the arrest, municipal officers took him to the Secretariat’s facilities to carry out the corresponding procedures, resulting in a fine of 8,000 pesos.”
