Cancun ranks first in country with Blue Flag certified beaches and boats

Cancun, Q.R. — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has received Blue Flag certifications for Cancun, thus kicking off the 2024-2025 Blue Flag Season.

Lezama stressed the importance of taking care of the wealth that nature has given the city, preserving it for future generations, “so that our daughters, sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren can enjoy this paradise.”

The Governor thanked the joint work with local businessmen for providing the best service in the world as well as taking care of the environment.

“I am very pleased to know that today we not only reflect the commitment of those who had already been awarded, of those who had already achieved that flag, but that more are joining and those who reaffirm their commitment.

“It is not just about arriving, it is about staying, it is about continuing every day, it is about sharing. Look how blessed we are with these natural beauties. The best thing that Quintana Roo has is you, it is its people” Lezama said.

The European Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) Mexico’s Executive Director, Joaquín Díaz Ríos, presented the certifications for Playa Delfines, the Fiesta Americana Condesa, Live Aqua, Flamingo, Iberostar hotels and the Cancún Sailing boat company.

Joaquín Díaz highlighted that Quintana Roo is the state with the most beaches and boats with Blue Flag certifications and that speaks of responsibility, of care, of a joint functionality not only to have clean beaches, but also environmentally responsible ones.

For the 2024-2025 season, the municipality of Benito Juárez (Cancun) achieved the renewal of 43 awards four more than last year, bringing the total to 47 awards.

Cancun Mayor Ana Paty Peralta de la Peña stated that “working together with the federal, state and municipal government as well as private initiatives, the municipality of Benito Juárez ranks first nationally with Blue Flag certified sites and first place internationally with Blue Flag certified vessels.”

The FEE (Fundación Europea para la Educación Ambiental) certifies beaches, marinas and boats that meet the 33 criteria grouped into categories of Environmental Education, Water Quality, Environmental Management and Handling and Safety and Services.
